The latest victim, 19-year-old Lorenzo Nieto, a young farmhand, was discovered brutally murdered on a dairy farm near McAllen. Ismael Gonzales, the local dairy man, made the gruesome discovery on his property when he arrived on Wednesday, July 31. A bloody axe lay nearby, its edge stained with the lifeblood of the young man. Nieto’s lifeless body bore the markings of a savage beating, his head split open with unimaginable force.
The authorities are on high alert, following the sixth violent death in just four days. The list of victims reads like a grim tally: Domingo Eddy Garza, the son of Deputy Sheriff Pete Garza, was fatally shot by Ricardo Mendoza during a heated argument at a dance on the Rio Grande, 14 miles east of Hidalgo on Saturday night. Garza was struck three times, a ruthless act that left the community reeling.
As investigators dig deeper, Assistant District Attorney Rogers Kelly has launched a manhunt for a young boy who was seen in the vicinity of the farm where Nieto’s body was found. Kelly is also holding two suspects, Jose Ysaquirre and Jose Gomez, for further questioning. The two men were last seen with Nieto on Tuesday night, and their whereabouts are now of utmost interest to the authorities.
The farm where Nieto worked was once a peaceful haven, where he tended to the cows under the watchful eye of Gonzales. But the tranquility was short-lived, as Gonzales revealed that he had been experiencing trouble with a local boy who had been causing a ruckus near the ranch. It seems that this trouble may have escalated into a deadly confrontation.
