Boston Felon Shane Brown Hit with Gun and Sex Offender Charges

BOSTON – In a stunning turn of events, Shane Brown, 35, a Boston man, was arrested and hit with federal charges today for illegal firearm possession and failing to register as a sex offender.

Brown, who is currently prohibited from owning firearms due to a previous conviction for a crime punishable by at least one year in prison, was caught with an SCCY Industries, model CPX-2, 9mm caliber pistol and seven 9mm Luger cartridges on July 2, 2020.

The Department of Justice’s United States Attorney Andrew E. Lelling; U.S. Marshals John Gibbons and Thomas L. Foster; and Boston Police Commissioner William Gross announced the charges today. Assistant U.S. Attorney Elianna Nuzum is leading the prosecution.

Brown faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, and up to 10 years for failing to register as a sex offender. Sentences will be imposed by a federal district court judge based on the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime by targeting the most violent offenders and partnering with local programs for lasting reductions in crime.

As the details contained in the indictment are allegations, Brown is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
