A former St. Louis police officer has been sentenced to one year and one day in prison for his role in a mail fraud scheme.

Brad Stephens, a former officer with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Sarah E. Pitlyk on [missing] for three counts of mail fraud.

According to court documents, Stephens falsely represented to City Wide Security (CWS) that he worked 169 day and night patrol shifts in the Tower Grove South Neighborhood, when in fact, he did not actually work those assigned shifts.

Stephens, who was employed by CWS beginning in approximately 2015, claimed to have worked 93 days in 2018 and 76 days in 2019. CWS was paid approximately $50,000 by the Tower Grove South organization based on Stephens’ false representations.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.

Stephens pleaded guilty to the charges on December 6, 2021.

As a result of his actions, Stephens has been sentenced to one year and one day in federal prison for his role in the mail fraud scheme.
