Brady Lee Morgan, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Iowa 2018

A Waterloo man has been sentenced to over four years in federal prison for possessing a firearm after a felony conviction, according to court documents.

Brady Lee Morgan, 25, of Waterloo, Iowa, was sentenced to 57 months’ imprisonment in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Judge Linda R. Reade.

Morgan was found guilty of possession of a firearm by a felon after police received information that he was in possession of a firearm and cocaine. Police located Morgan at a residence in Waterloo and arrested him pursuant to a previously issued state warrant.

During the arrest, a firearm was found next to Morgan in a bag, along with drug packaging material. Morgan had previously been convicted of assault causing serious injury after participating in a fight that permanently left the victim without the use of one eye.

Morgan is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison. He must also serve a three-year term of supervised release after the prison term.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an evidence-based program aimed at reducing violent crime. PSN focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs for lasting reductions in crime.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Lisa C. Williams and investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms and the Waterloo Police Department.
