Brandi Wiggins, Gun Trafficking, Connecticut 2023

A Glastonbury woman has pleaded guilty to a federal gun trafficking charge after investigators linked her to numerous firearms recovered in three states.

Vanessa Roberts Avery, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that 35-year-old Brandi Wiggins waived her right to be indicted and pleaded guilty to engaging in the business of dealing in firearms without a license.

According to court documents, Wiggins came to the attention of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) after several firearms she purchased in North Carolina were recovered in Connecticut, New York, and Massachusetts.

The investigation revealed that Wiggins purchased seven firearms in North Carolina between April 2016 and November 2019. She later sold the firearms at pawn shops and through a website specializing in firearm sales.

Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer scheduled sentencing for December 12, at which time Wiggins faces a maximum term of imprisonment of five years.

Wiggins is currently released pending sentencing.

This matter is being investigated by the ATF and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Brendan Keefe.

This prosecution is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through community-based initiatives.

The Justice Department launched a violent crime reduction strategy in May 2021, strengthening PSN based on core principles such as fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting community-based organizations, and setting focused enforcement priorities.
