Brandon Christopher Solomon, a 21-year-old Charleston man, has been sentenced to three years in federal prison for separate charges of escape and possession with intent to distribute heroin. This sentence was handed down by United States District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin, following Solomon’s guilty plea to a two-count indictment.
Solomon’s troubles with the law began in December 2015, when he escaped from a halfway house in St. Albans. At the time, he was serving a sentence for violating his federal supervised release from a prior drug conviction. For several months, Solomon’s whereabouts were unknown, until he was finally tracked down by officers with the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team on April 28, 2016.
The officers had been executing a search warrant on Daniel Boone Drive in Charleston when they located Solomon. Upon his arrest, a search of his person revealed six baggies of heroin and cash in his pocket. This discovery led to the additional charge of possession with intent to distribute heroin, which Solomon has now pleaded guilty to.
The investigation into Solomon’s activities was conducted by the United States Marshals Service and the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team. Assistant United States Attorney Haley Bunn is in charge of the prosecution, which is part of an ongoing effort by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia to combat the illicit sale and misuse of prescription drugs and heroin.
This effort involves federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies working together to aggressively pursue and shut down illegal pill trafficking, eliminate open air drug markets, and curtail the spread of opiate painkillers and heroin in communities across the Southern District. The U.S. Attorney’s Office is committed to taking a strong stance against those who engage in these illegal activities, and Solomon’s sentence serves as a testament to this commitment.
United States Attorney Carol Casto announced Solomon’s sentence, emphasizing the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions. By working together, law enforcement agencies can make a significant impact in the fight against drug trafficking and related crimes. As the community continues to grapple with the effects of heroin and other illicit substances, the sentencing of Brandon Christopher Solomon serves as a reminder of the consequences of engaging in these activities.
In addition to his prison sentence, Solomon’s case highlights the need for continued vigilance and cooperation between law enforcement agencies. The successful investigation and prosecution of this case demonstrate the effectiveness of these efforts, and serve as a warning to those who would engage in similar activities. As the fight against drug trafficking continues, the United States Attorney’s Office and its partners remain committed to pursuing justice and protecting the community.
