In a tense standoff, a limited state of siege was declared in Brandenburg, Alaska on June 20, 1923, after a group of metal workers went on strike. The situation turned violent when police fired over the heads of the protesters, but no one was injured. The protesters, however, were taken into custody and imprisoned.
