Brett Mull, Tampering with Evidence, Oklahoma 2023

A shocking case of corruption has rocked the Mayes County Sheriff’s Office, as former Deputy Sheriff Brett Mull, 47, of Pryor, Oklahoma, has been charged with tampering or obstruction of an official investigation or proceeding.

According to a Criminal Complaint filed in U.S. District Court, Mull allegedly misused his position to obtain methamphetamine that had been collected as evidence during drug investigations.

The complaint alleges that investigators discovered Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation evidence submittal envelopes during a search of Mull’s residence on July 3, 2018. The envelopes appeared to have previously contained methamphetamine seized during Mayes County law enforcement operations.

Mull admitted to officers that he had removed the evidence from the Criminal Investigations Unit, which he supervised, for his own personal use.

“This case demonstrates the destructive lure of methamphetamine,” said U.S. Attorney Trent Shores. “More importantly, Mr. Mull has allegedly violated the public’s trust and abused his position as a deputy sheriff. Those serving in law enforcement must maintain a justice system that fosters trust among the people of this nation who count on these men and women. The U.S. Attorney’s Office will seek to hold Mr. Mull accountable in a court of law.”

The matter will proceed in United States District Court in Tulsa, where the Criminal Complaint is currently pending. A Criminal Complaint is a temporary charge alleging a violation of law.
