Brian Dewayne Johnson, Methamphetamine Possession with Intent to Distribute, Wyoming 2016

Brian Dewayne Johnson, 38, of Evansville, Wyoming, was sentenced to 80 months in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The ruling came November 10, 2016, from Federal District Court Judge Scott W. Skavdahl after Johnson was apprehended in Casper during a joint enforcement operation.

Johnson’s arrest was part of a broader crackdown on drug trafficking across central Wyoming, where methamphetamine continues to fuel violent crime and overdose deaths. Authorities seized a significant quantity of the drug, leading to the federal charge that carried a mandatory minimum sentence.

Along with his prison term, Johnson will serve three years of supervised release and must pay a $100.00 special assessment and $400.00 in restitution. The case was investigated by the Wyoming Highway Patrol, the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

This sentencing coincided with a wave of drug-related convictions in the district, including Steven Timothy Brown, 56, of Lead, South Dakota, who received 120 months for the same charge after being caught with meth in Casper. Brown will also serve five years of supervised release and pay $100.00 in special assessment and $500.00 in restitution.

Jaimie Lynn High Horse, 26, of Kyle, South Dakota, was sentenced the same day for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, heroin, and marijuana after her arrest in Rawlins. She received 60 months in prison, four years of supervised release, and a $100.00 special assessment.

The DOJ continues to prioritize drug interdiction in rural corridors, where traffickers exploit isolated highways. With multiple agencies involved—from the DEA to the FBI and tribal law enforcement—the crackdown signals a hardline stance on narcotics distribution across state lines in the region.
