Brian Kevin Sigmon, II, Gun Crime, West Virginia 2016

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – A Logan County man’s reckless decision to possess a sawed-off shotgun in 2016 has finally caught up with him. Brian Kevin Sigmon, II, 34, of Henlawson, was sentenced to two years and three months in federal prison, announced United States Attorney Carol Casto.

The crime occurred on October 22, 2016, when Sigmon possessed a shotgun that had been sawed-off, with a barrel length of less than 18 inches and an overall length of less than 26 inches. The sawed-off shotgun Sigmon possessed was not registered on the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record as required by federal law.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives conducted the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Eric Bacaj handled the prosecution. Chief United States District Judge Thomas E. Johnston imposed the sentence.

Sigmon’s sentencing is a success for Project Safe Neighborhoods, a nationwide commitment to reduce gun crime in the United States by networking existing local programs targeting gun crime. This case was brought as part of the initiative.

As the people of West Virginia continue to struggle with the effects of gun violence, Sigmon’s sentence serves as a reminder that there will be consequences for those who break the law.
