A Cedar Rapids man is headed to prison for downloading and possessing child pornography. Brian Lynch, 47, was sentenced to 210 months’ imprisonment in federal prison.

Lynch pleaded guilty to one count of receipt of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography on August 1, 2013. He admitted to downloading child pornography between March 2010 and March 2013, and possessing it between November 2004 and April 2013.

According to court documents, Lynch possessed over 350 videos and over 175 images of child pornography, including depictions of prepubescent children.

Lynch was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade. He must also serve a ten-year term of supervised release and comply with all sex offender registration and public notification requirements.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mark Tremmel and was investigated by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the DeWitt Police Department, the Cedar Rapids Police Department, and the United States Marshals Service.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Brian Lynch, 47, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, received the sentence after a guilty plea to one count of receipt of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. He must also pay a special assessment of $200.
