William P. Mack, Bribery, Louisiana 2012

William P. Mack

Kenner, LA – In a shocking turn of events, William P. Mack, 64, a businessman from Kenner, Louisiana, has been sentenced to 20 months in prison for conspiring to bribe former Jefferson Parish President Aaron F. Broussard.

According to court documents, Mack began a business relationship with Broussard in 2002, paying him approximately $1,500 per month in exchange for Broussard’s official acts to steer telecommunications work to Mack and his company, First Communications Company.

As Broussard rose through the ranks, becoming Jefferson Parish President in 2004, Mack continued to pay him approximately $1,500 per month for his efforts to steer work, including Parish telecommunications work, to FCC. By the time Broussard was Parish President, Mack paid him approximately $66,000 in exchange for, among other things, Jefferson Parish telecommunications work, collectively worth approximately $40,000.

Broussard, the former Jefferson Parish President, pled guilty to multiple corruption charges, including conspiracy to commit bribery involving the bribes paid by Mack, in September 2012. He was ultimately sentenced to 46 months imprisonment.

The case was investigated by special agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Matt Chester and Brian Klebba handled the prosecution.

In addition to the term of imprisonment, U.S. District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown fined Mack $60,000 and placed him on two years of supervised release. This egregious act of corruption highlights the need for accountability in our public institutions.

As the people of Louisiana demand transparency and honesty from their leaders, it is clear that those who abuse their power will face the consequences.
