Bristol Man Jailed for 144 Months in Child Pornography Scandal

ABINGDON, VIRGINIA – In a chilling revelation, Jonathan Neal Sexton, a 33-year-old man from Bristol, Virginia, was sentenced to 144 months in federal prison yesterday after pleading guilty to distributing and possessing child pornography. The sentence came after Sexton’s conviction on two counts of distributing child pornography and one count of possessing child pornography.

Sexton’s descent into the depths of pedophilic exploitation began with a KIK chat where he believed he was corresponding with a 14-year-old girl. However, the girl was actually an undercover FBI employee from the Human Trafficking & Child Exploitation Task Force. Despite the clean area restrictions on the app, Sexton engaged the undercover agent in explicit conversations and sent lewd images, including videos of himself masturbating.

The court documents revealed a disturbing pattern of abuse. Sexton not only sought nude pictures from his supposed teenage victim but also shared images of prepubescent females engaging in sexual conduct with young males. His online exchanges were filled with references to future meetings and sexual encounters.

This harrowing case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Virginia State Police, United States Marshal’s Service, and the Bristol, Virginia Police Department. Assistant United States Attorneys Zachary T. Lee and Lena Busscher prosecuted the case for the United States.

Branded as part of Project Safe Childhood—a nationwide initiative combating child exploitation and abuse—the case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of online predators and the vigilant efforts of federal agencies to protect our youth.
