Jacksonville, FL — A British national is behind bars after a violent outburst aboard an international flight forced an emergency landing at Jacksonville International Airport. Oliver Charles Halliday Gee (34, Playa Del Carmen, Mexico) was charged in a federal criminal complaint with assault or intimidation of a flight crew, a crime that carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison.
According to the affidavit filed with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Gee’s rampage began before takeoff on Condor Flight 2115, en route from Cancun, Mexico, to Frankfurt, Germany. The 34-year-old demanded alcohol and grew increasingly aggressive. Roughly 60 to 90 minutes into the flight, Gee threatened to kill another passenger and intimidated a three-year-old child, escalating tensions in the cabin.
The situation spiraled when Gee began verbally assaulting flight attendants and stripped off his clothing, exposing his penis in the cabin. He announced his intent to urinate in the aisle and was escorted toward the lavatory by the flight’s purser and a civilian passenger who volunteered to help. During the escort, Gee slapped both men in the face without warning.
As he was restrained, Gee issued death threats, telling the volunteer passenger he would be killed — and that he had connections in Mexico who would carry out the hit. The threats, captured on cabin recordings and corroborated by crew statements, painted a picture of a man unraveling in real time at 30,000 feet.
With the safety of over 200 passengers at risk, the pilot made the decision to divert the flight. The plane made an emergency landing in Jacksonville on November 2, 2016. Gee was immediately taken into custody by FBI agents waiting on the tarmac. The aircraft was refueled and continued its journey to Frankfurt after a 5-hour delay.
Gee made his initial appearance in federal court the following day and was ordered held without bond pending a formal detention hearing set for November 7, 2016. The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Aviation Authority Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Laura Cofer Taylor. A criminal complaint is merely an allegation, and Oliver Charles Halliday Gee is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
