British Predator Sentenced to 42 Years for Child Sex Exploitation

In a shocking case of online predators, British man Scott West, 40, of Manchester, United Kingdom, has been sentenced to 42 years in prison for three counts of sexual exploitation of a child.

On June 23, 2025, U.S. Chief District Judge Sara Darrow handed down the harsh sentence after West was convicted of soliciting sexually explicit photos from minors on social media. The defendant and his co-conspirator created a fake account of a young woman to lure in young boys, who were then coerced into sending explicit photos.

The investigation revealed that West would threaten to expose the victims if they didn’t comply, and he would also engage in similar behavior with minors in multiple countries. The case was brought to the United States after West was extradited from the United Kingdom in October 2024.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah E. Seberger praised the efforts of the law enforcement agencies involved, stating, “West manipulated and preyed upon children on two continents in his quest to fulfill his own sexual desires.” She added, “This extradition and sentence ensured that his American victims received justice in the United States for his crimes.”

The Justice Department’s Office of International Affairs provided significant assistance in securing West‘s arrest and extradition from the United Kingdom. The United States Secret Service and the Greater Manchester Police Online Child Abuse Investigation Team investigated the case, with assistance from the Illinois State Police and several local Illinois police departments and sheriffs’ offices.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. West‘s sentence reflects the severity of his crimes, and it serves as a warning to others who would engage in similar behavior. As Assistant U.S. Attorney Seberger noted, “Adults should protect children, not prey upon them online.”
