Jevon Henry, Cocaine Possession, New York 2024

A 42-year-old Bronx resident has been caught with his hands deep in the cookie jar, literally.

Jevon Henry, age 42, of the Bronx, New York, pled guilty today to possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute. United States Attorney Carla B. Freedman and Frank A. Tarentino III, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), New York Division, made the announcement.

As part of his plea, Henry admitted that, on January 29, 2024, he travelled to Syracuse from New York City carrying approximately five and one-half kilograms of cocaine in two pieces of luggage. That’s equivalent to $44.7 million worth of the illegal substance, a staggering amount that’s sure to send shockwaves through the community.

Henry also admitted that he intended to distribute the cocaine in Syracuse. Through investigation, DEA Agents were able to interdict Henry at a local hotel before he could distribute any of the cocaine.

The case is a prime example of the DEA’s effectiveness in taking down major players in the drug trade. As Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica N. Carbone put it, ‘this case demonstrates the DEA’s commitment to disrupting and dismantling major drug trafficking organizations.’

The United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is investigating the case with assistance from the Syracuse Police Department, Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, and Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office. Henry faces a mandatory minimum prison sentence of 5 years and a maximum sentence of 40 years, a fine of up to $5,000,000, and a term of supervised release of at least 4 years and up to life.

Sentencing is scheduled for September 10, 2024, in Syracuse. This case is a stark reminder that the DEA will stop at nothing to take down those who would seek to bring harm to our communities through their involvement in the illicit drug trade. We will be keeping a close eye on this case and any others like it.
