A Nunda man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for producing child pornography, a heinous crime that has left many shaken to their core. Bryan Matacale, 43, was convicted of production of child pornography and possessing an obscene sexual performance by a child, a crime that warrants the utmost condemnation.
The sentencing is a result of a thorough investigation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Kevin Kelly. The investigation began in March 2017 when the Belgian Federal Police received information from a Belgian citizen that an individual known as ‘Bob’ was involved in the possession and distribution of child pornography. It was later revealed that ‘Bob’ was none other than Bryan Matacale.
During a search warrant executed at Matacale’s residence on August 28, 2017, law enforcement officers seized various computers and electronic media. An examination of the defendant’s cellular telephone revealed text messages between Matacale and A.W., an individual known to law enforcement who had two daughters, ages four and six. In multiple messages, Matacale requested naked pictures of A.W.’s daughter, stating they would be used for a ‘research’ report. A.W. sent Matacale approximately a dozen photos between September 2016 and February 2017.
The investigation also revealed online conversations between Matacale and a 16-year-old girl from Vermont. At the defendant’s request, the girl sent naked pictures of herself on three separate dates in August 2017.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Melissa M. Marangola, who handled the case, stated that the defendant’s actions were appalling and deserving of the severe sentence he received. ‘The production and distribution of child pornography is a serious crime that has devastating consequences for the victims and their families,’ Marangola said.
