Grimy Times Exclusive: A 25-year-old man from Bullhead, South Dakota, has been sentenced to 33 months of imprisonment for a brutal domestic assault.
Willard Paul Farrell, III, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Charles B. Kornmann on April 29, 2013, for his role in a January 2011 incident in which he ran up to a victim, unprovoked, and assaulted her on a public street.
The victim, who had a restraining order in place to prevent Farrell from having contact with or harassing her, sustained numerous scrapes and bruises, along with a fractured cheekbone as a result of the assault.
Farrell, who had previously been in a domestic relationship with the victim, was indicted by a federal grand jury in August 2012 and pled guilty to Count I of the indictment on January 2, 2013, which charged him with Domestic Assault by a Habitual Offender.
The assault was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Standing Rock Agency, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy Morley prosecuted the case.
As part of his sentence, Farrell was also ordered to serve 3 years of supervised release and pay a $100 special assessment. He was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshal.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of domestic violence and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.
