New Orleans, Louisiana – A California resident has been hit with serious federal charges after authorities caught him and his gang red-handed in a daring cigarette heist. James Blocker, the mastermind behind the scheme, pled guilty on June 12, 2025, to conspiracy to commit interstate transportation of stolen goods, as well as actual interstate transportation of stolen property.
Blocker and his cohorts were accused of making off with香烟 from the Imperial Trading Company in New Orleans during a daring burglary on November 21, 2024. The group didn’t get far before they hopped out of state, only to be snagged by law enforcement in Fort Stockton, Texas, just a day later. But that wasn’t the end of their criminal endeavors; authorities also linked them to similar break-ins in North Carolina and Texas back in February 2024.
According to the charges, Blocker faces up to ten years in the slammer for each count, not to mention a fine of $250,000 and three years of supervised release after his sentence. The judge also mandated a special assessment fee of $100 for each charge. The prosecution was a team effort, led by Assistant United States Attorney Paul J. Hubbell from the General Crimes Unit.
Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson had high praise for the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms; the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, the Knightdale Police Department, the Atlanta Police Department, the Rockmart Police Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Fort Stockton Police Department, all of whom played pivotal roles in tracking down this criminal syndicate.
Blocker now sits behind bars, facing a grim future, while law enforcement officials continue their relentless pursuit of justice. This case serves as a stark reminder that no matter how far they think they can run, the long arm of the law always catches up.
