CANTON, OHIO – Daniel Dillon, a 50-year-old man from Los Angeles, has been charged with making interstate threatening communications to officials in Stark County, Ohio.
According to a federal indictment, Dillon sent threatening communications to a Stark County judge, a Stark County public official, a court-appointed guardian, and the guardian’s attorney. The threatening messages were sent via fax, email, and voicemail from California to Ohio.
The indictment was handed down by a federal grand jury in Cleveland and is the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Canton, Ohio. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Nancy Kelley.
‘If convicted, his sentence will be determined by the Court after review of factors unique to this case, including his prior criminal record, if any, his role in the offenses and the unique characteristics of the violations,’ said Steven M. Dettelbach, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio.
Dettelbach also noted that the sentence will not exceed the statutory maximum and in most cases will be less than the maximum. ‘An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt,’ he said. ‘A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.’
The case highlights the importance of protecting public officials and their families from threats and intimidation. It also underscores the need for vigilant law enforcement and prosecution to hold those who engage in such behavior accountable.
The indictment against Daniel Dillon is a serious reminder that threats to public officials will not be tolerated.
