California Man Kevin Dunlow Arrested for NC Threat Spree

RALEIGH, N.C. – A 62-year-old man from Huntington Beach, California, is facing federal charges after allegedly unleashing a torrent of violent threats against North Carolinians. Kevin Dunlow was arrested today and will appear in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina, accused of targeting individuals, law enforcement, and religious institutions with hate-fueled declarations.

Attorney General Merrick B. Garland didn’t mince words, stating, “Hate-fueled, violent threats endanger the safety of individuals and entire communities.” The complaint details explicit threats, including a bomb threat directed at the Wake County Sheriff’s Office, a threat against an elected official, and a chilling vow to a Rabbi: “I am coming to the Temple to kill all the Jews and the children.” Garland vowed the Justice Department will prosecute anyone making similar illegal threats, regardless of motivation.

U.S. Attorney Michael F. Easley, Jr. echoed that sentiment, declaring, “We will not normalize violent threats in America.” Easley emphasized the gravity of the allegations, stating Dunlow targeted people of faith, cops, and public servants. “These cases will always receive our highest attention,” he stated. The affidavit paints a picture of a man allegedly consumed by rage and intent on causing harm from across state lines.

According to court documents, Dunlow made the most disturbing threat on or about May 7, 2024, allegedly stating, “Jews didn’t deserve to live. Jews didn’t deserve to be on this earth. I’m going to kill the Jews. I’m coming to the Temple to kill all the Jews and the children.” This outburst, along with the false bomb threat to the Wake County Sheriff’s Office, forms the core of the federal case against him. The FBI has been leading the investigation.

Dunlow is charged with illegally using communication to threaten harm or kidnap, and knowingly making false reports about bombs. If convicted on either charge, he faces a potential five-year prison sentence. Assistant U.S. Attorney Gabriel Diaz is prosecuting the case, with assistance from the FBI Los Angeles Field Office and the Department of Justice’s National Security Section.

Grimy Times will continue to follow this case as it develops. Court documents can be found on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina website or through PACER using Case No. 5:24-MJ-1651-BM. It’s crucial to remember that a criminal complaint is simply an accusation, and Dunlow is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
