A brazen bank robbery has shaken the streets of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, leaving residents on high alert. Calvin Leavy, 67, a former resident of the city’s East Liberty neighborhood, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on bank robbery charges in connection with three separate incidents.
According to the indictment, Leavy attempted to rob the First National Bank located at 3721 Forbes Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213, on January 31, 2022. He was successful in robbing the PNC Bank located at 4600 Fifth Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15213, of $1,338.00 on the same day. Additionally, on February 8, 2022, Leavy robbed the First National Bank located at 307 4th Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15222, of $1,238.00.
The indictment charges Leavy with attempting to rob the First National Bank and robbing the PNC Bank and First National Bank of a total of $2,576.00. If convicted, Leavy faces a maximum total sentence of 20 years in prison, a fine of $250,000 or both.
The law provides that the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant. Leavy’s prior record, if any, will be taken into consideration during sentencing.
Assistant United States Attorney Rebecca L. Silinski is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and City of Pittsburgh Bureau of Police conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.
An indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Leavy will face justice for his alleged crimes, and the people of Pittsburgh can rest easy knowing that law enforcement is working tirelessly to keep their community safe.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and City of Pittsburgh Bureau of Police have worked closely together to bring Leavy to justice. Their dedication to keeping the streets of Pittsburgh safe is commendable, and their efforts will not go unnoticed.
