Cameron A. Thomas, Bank Robbery, Missouri 2022

A man who committed three bank robberies and then shot at law enforcement in Jefferson County, Missouri, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.

U.S. District Judge Catherine D. Perry handed down the sentence to Cameron A. Thomas, 31, of Florissant, Missouri.

According to the FBI, Thomas robbed three banks in October 2020, including the First Community State Bank in Jefferson County, the Electro Savings Credit Union in St. Louis County, and the First Community State Bank again in Jefferson County.

During the robberies, Thomas, who was disguised as a woman, pointed a silver semiautomatic pistol at bank employees and demanded cash.

After the second robbery, Thomas fled the scene and led law enforcement on a high-speed chase before crashing his vehicle and attempting to flee on foot.

As he fled, Thomas fired multiple shots at the deputies pursuing him, but they were able to apprehend him after he forced his way into a woman’s apartment at gunpoint.

The woman, who was not identified, was pulled from the apartment by law enforcement, and Thomas changed into her clothes and hid his 9mm pistol inside the apartment before his arrest.

Thomas also admitted to possessing an AK-47-style assault rifle, which was found in his vehicle after a traffic crash.

As a convicted felon, Thomas is barred from possessing firearms.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Donald Boyce said that Thomas’ robberies escalated in both seriousness and violence, and that one of the banks he robbed was no longer allowing customers in the lobby due to security concerns.

Thomas pleaded guilty in August to multiple charges, including armed bank robbery, brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, discharging a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

He was ordered to repay $19,262 to the banks he robbed as part of his sentence.

The case was investigated by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Donald Boyce prosecuting the case.
