A Canadian national has been charged with the heinous crime of sexually abusing minors on the Bois Forte Indian Reservation in a case that is sure to leave a trail of outrage and shock in its wake.
Brady John Hillis, a 32-year-old man from Kenora, Ontario, has been indicted on two counts of abusive sexual contact with a child under 12 years of age and one count of aggravated sexual abuse of a child under 12 years of age.
According to court documents, the horrific crimes took place on June 22, 2018, when Hillis knowingly engaged in sexual contact with two minor victims who were under the age of 12.
The charges against Hillis were announced by Acting U.S. Attorney W. Anders Folk, who vowed to bring the perpetrator to justice.
An investigation by the FBI and the Bois Forte Police Department led to the indictment, which Assistant U.S. Attorney Deidre Y. Aanstad will be prosecuting.
Hillis made his initial appearance in U.S. District Court before Magistrate Judge David T. Schultz, where he will face the serious charges against him.
An indictment is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilant law enforcement and the need for communities to come together to protect their most vulnerable members.
