Candice Marie Adams, Unlawful Use of Communication Facility, West Virginia 2020

A Monongalia County woman has been sentenced to 15 months of incarceration for her role in a drug trafficking conspiracy, according to Acting United States Attorney Randolph J. Bernard.

Candice Marie Adams, 31, of Morgantown, West Virginia, pled guilty to one count of “Unlawful Use of Communication Facility” in November 2020. Adams admitted to using a phone to distribute drugs in March 2020 in Monongalia County.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Zelda E. Wesley prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. The Drug Enforcement Administration, the Mon Metro Drug & Violent Crimes Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, and the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office investigated.

This case is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation. OCDETF identifies, disrupts, and dismantles the highest-level drug traffickers, money launderers, gangs, and transnational criminal organizations that threaten the United States by using a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven, multi-agency approach that leverages the strengths of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies against criminal networks.

Senior U.S. District Judge Irene M. Keeley presided over the case.

The case is a part of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of West Virginia’s continued efforts to combat the opioid epidemic in the state.

Adams’ sentence was announced by Acting United States Attorney Randolph J. Bernard.

Adams has been remanded into the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service to begin serving her sentence.

The Northern District of West Virginia is part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF), which identifies, disrupts, and dismantles the highest-level drug traffickers, money launderers, gangs, and transnational criminal organizations that threaten the United States.

The case is a reminder that the U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue to work tirelessly to combat the opioid epidemic and bring those responsible to justice.
