GRIM NEWS: Canton’s Dwight Powell, 54, is locked up for 46 months after being caught in a massive DEA sting. The operation yanked $585,000 and 12kg of cocaine from the streets.

The feds’ investigation into drug kingpins in central Mississippi was a success story, said U.S. Attorney Darren LaMarca and DEA’s Brad Byerley. Powell was the fall guy, snagging charges after they netted him with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine, according to court records.

This wasn’t just any drug bust—it was an OCDETF operation, a beast in its own right, designed to dismantle top-level criminal organizations. Powell’s case is a testament to the task force’s multi-agency approach, which taps into the strengths of local and federal agencies to take down drug networks.

Multiple agencies were on the ground, from DEA agents to ATF specialists, U.S. Marshals, Hinds County Sheriff’s Office, Jackson Police, Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, and even IRS agents.
