Washington – Gregory Purdy, aged 26 from Hopewell Junction, New York, and Robert Turner, 42 from the Los Angeles area of California, have been found guilty by a federal jury in Washington DC for their roles in assaulting law enforcement officers during the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol breach. Purdy was also convicted of misdemeanor charges. Their sentencing is scheduled for October 18.
Purdy faced six felony counts, including civil disorder and obstruction of an official proceeding, while Turner was convicted on three felony charges. The trio disrupted a U.S. Congress session to count electoral votes following the 2020 presidential election.
Video evidence shows Purdy pushing police lines and entering the Capitol with others. Turner and Purdy were seen assaulting officers as they forced their way through a police line at the Upper West Terrace.
Purdy was also charged with six misdemeanors, including disorderly conduct in a Capitol building. Turner faced similar charges after being arrested in California on November 22, 2021, alongside his co-defendant, who was apprehended on November 10 in New York.
Court documents indicate the men traveled to Washington for the “Stop the Steal” rally and unlawfully entered the restricted U.S. Capitol grounds. Their actions contributed to the chaos that engulfed the Capitol building that day.
The convictions come as a significant victory for justice following one of the most violent breaches in American history, where many were injured or arrested for their roles in the riot.
