Armed Carjacker Sentenced to 30 Years in Federal Prison
Dallas, TX – In a shocking turn of events, Felipe Pinon, 28, of Dallas, was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for his role in the armed carjacking of two people in Dallas.
According to the FBI investigation, on January 18, 2015, Pinon and his co-defendant, Monica Renee Metcalf, 22, of Dallas, were involved in the armed carjacking of an individual (Victim 1) at a gas station near the 3300 block of Webb Chapel Extension in Dallas. Metcalf approached Victim 1 and asked for a ride, directing Victim 1 to drive her to an apartment complex across the street. When they arrived, Pinon approached the vehicle and spoke with Metcalf, then brandished a handgun and ordered Victim 1 to give him everything he had.
The next day, Metcalf and Pinon were involved in another armed carjacking, this time targeting an individual (Victim 2) who was seated in his vehicle near the 300 block of S. Seagoville Road in Dallas. Pinon brandished a handgun and ordered Victim 2 to get out of the vehicle, then drove away with Metcalf and another individual in Victim 2’s vehicle.
Pinon pleaded guilty to one count of carjacking and aiding and abetting and one count of using, carrying, and brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence and aiding and abetting. His co-defendant, Metcalf, also pleaded guilty to the same offenses and faces a statutory penalty of up to 15 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine on the carjacking count and up to life in federal prison on the firearm count.
The Dallas Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian Poe and Deputy Criminal Chief Assistant U.S. Attorney Gary Tromblay are prosecuting the case. Metcalf is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Sam A. Lindsay on July 25, 2016.
Pinon’s 30-year sentence serves as a warning to those who would engage in violent crimes, and we hope it brings some measure of justice to the victims of these heinous crimes.
