Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico – In a brutal attack, two carjackers have been sentenced to prison for beating a 77-year-old woman in her home.
Eliezer Rosario-Ramos, 23 years in prison, and his co-defendant Orlando Miguel Martínez-Ramos, 18 years in prison, were sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Aida Delgado-Colón for their roles in the carjacking.
On August 15, 2018, around 9 PM, the brothers broke into the woman’s house in Trujillo Alto. They threw a cloth over her head and beat her with a frying pan, taking her debit cards, cellphone, and television. The thieves then stole her Toyota Corolla and withdrew hundreds of dollars from her bank account.
The brothers were arrested the following day by agents from the Puerto Rico Police Bureau while driving the stolen vehicle in Condado.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated the case, with Assistant United States Attorney Jonathan Gottfried prosecuting the case.
The attack left the 77-year-old woman shaken and traumatized. Her case serves as a reminder of the importance of community vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement agencies.
The court’s decision sends a strong message that violent crimes will not be tolerated in our society. We must continue to work together to create a safer and more just community for all.
