In a harsh reminder of the consequences of violating U.S. immigration laws, a 25-year-old Mexican national has been sentenced for reentering the country after being previously deported.
Carlos Agaton-Vasquez, a native of Mexico, was found in the United States after having been previously deported from the country on April 4, 2013. According to court documents, Agaton-Vasquez was discovered in the country on January 3, 2017.
On May 22, 2023, U.S. District Court Judge Eldon E. Fallon handed down the sentence. Agaton-Vasquez will serve time served (7 months), followed by one year of supervised release, and pay a $100 special assessment fee.
After serving his time, Agaton-Vasquez will be surrendered to the custody of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for removal proceedings.
The sentence was handed down after Agaton-Vasquez pleaded guilty to a one-count indictment for illegal reentry of a removed alien. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jon Maestri, who praised the work of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in investigating the matter.
Agaton-Vasquez’s case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of violating U.S. immigration laws. The sentence handed down by Judge Fallon sends a clear message that those who attempt to reenter the country after being deported will face serious consequences.
The case is a testament to the dedication of law enforcement agencies in enforcing immigration laws and protecting the nation’s borders.
