In a shocking turn of events, Juan Carlos Castillo-Gonzalez, a 35-year-old resident of Laredo, Texas, was brought to justice for his involvement in a string of violent crimes that terrorized the city in the summer of 2017.
According to court records, Castillo-Gonzalez was charged with conspiracy to commit kidnapping, kidnapping, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. The charges were filed on July 11, 2017, in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas.
The investigation, led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), revealed that Castillo-Gonzalez was part of a gang that targeted several individuals, including a local business owner, in a brazen kidnapping attempt. The victims were allegedly held captive for several hours before being released unharmed.
Castillo-Gonzalez was arrested on August 15, 2017, after a daring raid by law enforcement officials. He was subsequently charged with the above-mentioned crimes and held without bail.
In a dramatic court hearing on October 12, 2018, Castillo-Gonzalez pleaded guilty to the charges, admitting to his role in the kidnapping scheme. As part of his plea agreement, he agreed to cooperate with authorities and provide information about his gang associates.
On January 25, 2019, Castillo-Gonzalez was sentenced to 10 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $25,000 and a special assessment of $200.
