Cedar Rapids Felon Andre Kase Jr. Gets Near 6-Year Sentence for Gun Possession

Andre Kase, Jr., a 20-year-old man from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was today handed down an almost six-year sentence for illegal firearm possession. The judgment follows his guilty plea on February 27, 2013, to charges of being both a felon in possession of a firearm and an unlawful user of marijuana.

In October 2012, Kase was caught with a stolen Smith and Wesson .380 caliber handgun during a police response to an attempted burglary. He confessed to using marijuana and had previously been convicted of Burglary on September 19, 2012. Kase also has a March 2012 conviction for Carrying Weapons, which included his admission of shooting a man with a stolen gun during a drug deal.

The sentence was pronounced by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade in Cedar Rapids. Kase’s term includes 71 months’ imprisonment, a $100 special assessment, and a mandatory three-year supervised release after his prison term. Federal parole is not an option.

Currently in the custody of the United States Marshal, Kase awaits transfer to a federal prison. The case was prosecuted under Project Safe Neighborhoods, a collaborative program focused on enhancing gun crime prosecution.

The investigation was carried out by the Cedar Rapids Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Court file details are accessible at https://ecf.iand.uscourts.gov/cgi-bin/login.pl with case number CR 12-0084.
