Cedar Rapids Man Sentenced for Gun Fraud and Drug Use

Cedar Rapids, IA – Alexander Wesley Ledvina, 27, was sentenced to more than four years in federal prison today for lying on a gun purchase and possessing multiple firearms while under the influence of drugs. The sentence comes after Ledvina was found guilty at a bench trial in December 2023.

According to court documents, on July 29, 2022, Ledvina bought a firearm from a store in the Northern District of Iowa, falsely claiming he was not an unlawful user of controlled substances. However, evidence showed that Ledvina had been using marijuana, THC, and cocaine during the months prior to the purchase.

Law enforcement discovered five firearms, ammunition, magazines, and illegal drugs at Ledvina’s residence after searching on August 11, 2022. United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams sentenced Ledvina to 51 months in prison, followed by a three-year term of supervised release.

The sentence is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through community engagement and strategic enforcement. Ledvina’s case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Adam J. Vander Stoep and investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
