Cesar Geovany Gomez, Illegal Alien Re-Entry, Maryland 2024

Baltimore, Maryland – In a shocking move, a Guatemalan national has been sentenced for illegally re-entering the United States. Cesar Geovany Gomez, 36, was handed down a lenient sentence of time served (approximately 130 days) in prison.

According to court documents, Gomez had been deported from the US on two prior occasions. His latest re-entry led to a conviction for first-degree assault in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Gomez is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for the assault, with all but five years suspended.

The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative to repel the invasion of illegal immigration and protect communities from violent crime. U.S. Attorney Kelly O. Hayes commended ICE-ERO for its work in the investigation.

Gomez’s first illegal entry into the US was on March 5, 2012, through Mexico. He was ordered removed through expedited proceedings 14 days later. After his second deportation in July 2017, Gomez re-entered the US again on an unknown date.

On December 12, 2024, Gomez pled guilty to first-degree assault in the Circuit Court for Prince George’s County. He was convicted of the crime despite having no consent to re-enter the US.

The US Attorney’s Office thanked Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Carolyn Mills for her work in prosecuting this federal case. For more information about the Maryland US Attorney’s Office, its priorities, and resources available to help the community, please visit justice.gov/usao-md.
