A Red Lake man has been charged with putting a baby’s life at risk. Chad Joseph Sumner, 33, is accused of intentionally placing the child in a situation that could cause harm on August 17, 2011. The infant suffered significant physical injuries, including head trauma and skull fractures.
The indictment, unsealed after Sumner’s initial court appearance, claims that Sumner’s actions led to substantial physical harm to the child. The case is the result of an investigation by the Red Lake Tribal Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The indictment alleges that Sumner intentionally placed the child in a situation likely to be harmful, resulting in the infant’s injuries. If convicted, Sumner faces a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison.
