Ontario warehouse fire suspect appears in court, pleads not guilty
A 33-year-old man accused of setting a massive warehouse fire in Ontario, California, appeared in court and pleaded not guilty to arson charges.
Chamel Abdulkarim, of Ontario, was arrested in connection with the fire that destroyed a 250,000-square-foot warehouse on February 27, 2024, causing an estimated $10 million in damages.
Abdulkarim is charged with one count of arson of an inhabited property and one count of arson of a structure. He is being held on $500,000 bail and is scheduled to return to court on April 17, 2024.
According to the Ontario Police Department, the fire was reported at around 2:30 a.m. on February 27, 2024, and multiple fire departments responded to the scene. The cause of the fire was determined to be suspicious, and an investigation led to Abdulkarim’s arrest.
