ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – A notorious tax cheat has been brought to justice in a shocking case of financial deceit. Charles Stoutt, a 39-year-old East Moline resident, pleaded guilty on November 7, 2022, to two counts of failure to file tax returns.
The charges allege that Stoutt deliberately failed to submit tax returns to the federal government for the tax years 2019 and 2020, and shockingly, he failed to report a staggering $1,800,000.00 in income. This brazen act of tax evasion has left many questioning how someone could be so reckless with their finances.
Stoutt’s guilty pleas come with a hefty price tag. He will be required to pay restitution to the Internal Revenue Service, which will be included in his sentencing. The exact amount of restitution will be determined at a later date.
The consequences of Stoutt’s actions could be severe. The statutory penalties for each count include up to a year in prison, a fine of up to $100,000, up to a year of supervised release, and payment of a $25 special assessment. A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for March 2, 2023.
The Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI) investigated the case, uncovering a complex web of deceit and financial mismanagement. Assistant U.S. Attorney John K. Mehochko represented the government in the prosecution, working tirelessly to bring Stoutt to justice.
Stoutt’s case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of honesty and transparency in financial dealings. His actions have had far-reaching consequences, and he will now face the music for his crimes.
As the trial approaches, one thing is clear: Charles Stoutt will have to answer for his actions. Will he receive a harsh sentence, or will he manage to wriggle his way out of trouble? Only time will tell.
