Kayrin English, Dealing in Firearms Without a License, North Carolina 2021

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A Charlotte Woman is Behind Bars for Illicit Firearm Sales

A 27-year-old Charlotte woman has been sentenced to 24 months in prison for dealing in firearms without a license. Kayrin English, 27, of Charlotte, was sentenced today by a federal judge in the Western District of North Carolina after pleading guilty to the charges.

The investigation, led by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Charlotte Field Division, revealed that English had applied for 36 firearm purchase permits between February 2020 and August 2021. She also applied for an additional seven permits in September 2021. ATF agents approached English when she arrived to collect the permits and conducted a consensual interview, during which English admitted to selling firearms without a license.

According to court records, English told ATF agents that she would purchase firearms with the permits and then resell them for profit to individuals who were prohibited from owning or purchasing firearms. English also admitted to selling approximately 15 to 20 firearms illegally since January 2021, with most of the transactions taking place locally. However, she had also traveled to New Jersey to sell several firearms she had purchased in Charlotte.

The case is part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) program, which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence by bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve.

English will be ordered to report to the federal Bureau of Prisons upon designation of a federal facility. Assistant U.S. Attorney Alfredo De La Rosa prosecuted the case, with the ATF leading the investigation.

The Department of Justice’s PSN program was launched in 2001, with a renewed focus on reducing violent crime and gun violence in 2021. The program sets focused and strategic enforcement priorities and measures the results to ensure that communities are safer for everyone.
