A shocking incident of violence has shaken the community in Lower Brule, South Dakota. Chassidy Crazy Bull, a 19-year-old woman, has been indicted for assaulting a federal officer.
According to the indictment, Crazy Bull was employed by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Lower Brule Agency. On September 21, 2021, she allegedly used a motor vehicle as a dangerous weapon, assaulting, opposing, impeding, intimidating, and interfering with a law enforcement officer.
Chassidy Crazy Bull appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on March 11, 2022, and pled not guilty to the Indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to 20 years in federal prison and/or a $250,000 fine, three years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The investigation is being conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Lower Brule Agency, South Dakota Highway Patrol, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan Dilges is prosecuting the case.
Crazy Bull was released on bond pending trial. A trial date has not been set.
The charge is merely an accusation and Chassidy Crazy Bull is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The community is still reeling from the news, and many are left wondering what led to this shocking incident.
For now, Crazy Bull remains free on bond, awaiting her trial date. The outcome of this case will be closely watched by the community and law enforcement officials alike.
