KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Samuel Weaver, a 62-year-old drug dealer from Chattanooga, was handed down a sentence of over 24 years in federal prison after he opened fire on SWAT officers during a drug raid.
Weaver was sentenced to 295 months for numerous drug and firearms-related offenses. The incident occurred when law enforcement attempted to serve a search warrant at his residence, where they believed Weaver was storing large quantities of drugs. Weaver’s actions not only endangered the lives of police officers but also contributed to his lengthy sentence.
According to testimony, Weaver fired upon members of the Chattanooga Police Department’s SWAT team as they approached his home with sirens blaring and announcements over a PA system. Despite taking steps to notify residents, Weaver aimed a shot at the door.幸运的是,子弹卡在门框中未能穿透。
Following the shooting, Weaver attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended by the SWAT team. Inside his residence, officers found significant amounts of heroin, fentanyl, methamphetamine, crack cocaine, and over $27,000 in cash, along with items for drug manufacturing.
This isn’t Weaver’s first brush with the law; he served 60 months in federal prison after being caught with nearly a kilogram of cocaine. His previous convictions include multiple burglary charges from Hamilton County.
United States Attorney J. Douglas Overbey commended the efforts of law enforcement, stating that drawing a hard line against those who attack police is crucial to protecting communities. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Frank Clark and Luke A. McLaurin represented the United States in this case.
