Crime-ridden streets of Chattanooga saw a glimmer of hope as the Chattanooga Police Department awarded the United States Attorney’s Office the honor of Federal Partner of the Year.
The award was bestowed upon the U.S. Attorney’s Office on Thursday, May 18, 2023, by Chief Celeste Murphy of the Chattanooga Police Department.
According to officials, the Chattanooga Police Department has enjoyed an excellent professional relationship with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for many years. Over those years, CPD and the U.S Attorney’s Office have partnered on numerous individual investigations, programs, and projects to enhance the safety of the community.
Through this partnership, the Chattanooga Police Department has made significant inroads into the community’s struggle with crimes committed by individuals while using or illegally possessing guns, as well as other violent crimes committed by repeat offenders.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office has also directly supported CPD in the prosecution of drug-related crimes that have resulted in way too many overdose deaths of people in the community.
Lastly, the U.S. Attorney’s Office has taken an active role in the region’s awarded PSP Grant, leveraging their experience to provide both guidance and strategic leadership.
United States Attorney Francis M. Hamilton III praised the partnership saying, “The United States Attorney’s Office is proud of its longstanding partnership with the Chattanooga Police Department, and we are honored to receive this award from Chief Murphy. We look forward to continuing our important work together as we collaborate to reduce violent crime in the Chattanooga community.”
