Alien Harboring and Unlawful Employment Ring Busted in Louisiana

A shocking case of alien harboring and unlawful employment has rocked the streets of Louisiana, with a family-owned restaurant chain at the center of the scandal. According to court documents, HOLLYWOOD EAST d/b/a EAST BUFFET and GRAND BUFFET, INC. pleaded guilty to the egregious crime of Illegal Harboring of Aliens.

U.S. District Judge Kurt D. Engelhardt handed down severe sentences to the restaurants, meting out five years probation and a $35,000 fine each. The restaurants, located in Metairie and Harahan, were found to have funded two separate residences in Jefferson Parish that harbored and employed illegal aliens.

The investigation, led by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, revealed that the restaurants transported the illegal workers by van each day. Furthermore, the restaurants did not report the workers to the Louisiana Workforce Commission, further exacerbating the crime.

The owners of the businesses, CHUI CHEUNG, age 41, YIK CHENG, age 36, and SAU CHEUNG, age 44, were also sentenced to two years probation and a fine of $5,000 each for Unlawful Employment of Aliens. The family’s blatant disregard for the law has left many wondering how they were able to evade detection for so long.

The investigation started when ICE agents performed inspections of the restaurants, uncovering the shocking truth behind the family’s business practices. Federal search warrants were executed at both residences, yielding evidence of the employment and harboring of the illegal aliens.

Acting U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans praised the work of the Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement in investigating this matter. Assistant United States Attorney Carter K. D. Guice, Jr. was in charge of the prosecution.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of breaking the law and the importance of upholding the rights of all individuals, regardless of their immigration status.
