A 24-year-old Eagle Butte man has been hit with a serious charge of Child Abuse, according to court documents. Allen White, also known as AJ White, was indicted by a federal grand jury on February 13, 2013 for the alleged crime.
The maximum penalty for White could be 15 years of custody, a $250,000 fine, or both, along with 3 years of supervised release and a $100 special assessment. Restitution may also be ordered.
The investigation into White’s alleged crimes is being led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mikal Hanson is handling the case.
White appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on February 20, 2013, where he pleaded not guilty to the indictment. A trial date has not yet been set, but White was released on bond pending the trial.
The charge is just an accusation, and White is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. In the United States, a defendant is innocent until proven guilty, and the burden of proof lies with the prosecution.
The case highlights the importance of protecting children from abuse and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is committed to investigating and prosecuting crimes of child abuse, and this case is a prime example of their dedication to justice.
As this case moves forward, the community will be watching closely to see the outcome. The alleged crimes committed by White are serious and have potentially severe consequences, and it is essential that justice is served.
