⏱ 2 min read

Rusbel Montoya Mandujano, a 32-year-old man from Oviedo, Florida, was found guilty of attempting to coerce and entice a minor to engage in sexual activity. The incident occurred on June 25, 2025, when Montoya Mandujano began communicating online with someone he believed to be a 14-year-old girl. However, the ‘girl’ was actually a team of detectives from the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office working undercover. Despite learning the ‘girl’s’ age, Montoya Mandujano continued to initiate discussions of sexual acts and made plans to meet up with her.

When Montoya Mandujano arrived at the meeting location on June 26, 2025, he was arrested by law enforcement. The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office. Montoya Mandujano faces a minimum penalty of 10 years in federal prison, with a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for August 25, 2026.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project aims to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims. Montoya Mandujano’s conviction is a significant step forward in the fight against child predators.

The prosecution of Montoya Mandujano was handled by Assistant United States Attorney Megan Testerman, while the asset forfeiture is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Nicole Andrejko. The United States Attorney’s Office and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section are leading the Project Safe Childhood initiative.
