Child Predator William Alan Schock Sentenced to 20 Years for Producing Child Pornography

GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN – In a chilling display of justice, William Alan Schock, a 66-year-old Manistee County man, has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for producing child pornography involving two young girls aged between 6 and 8. The sentence, handed down today, also mandates $25,000 in victim restitution and reimbursement of the Bureau of Prisons’ confinement costs.

For nearly four years, from 2011 to 2015, Schock photographed the girls nude at his Michigan and Arizona residences, using his deceptions to manipulate them. The exploitation was uncovered when one of the girls revealed Schock’s actions while being rewarded with candy. A quick response by the Michigan State Police led to a search warrant and the seizure of devices containing graphic material and evidence of another victim.

During today’s sentencing hearing, the mother of one victim shared her harrowing experience, detailing the lasting impact on her daughter’s mental health. U.S. District Judge Robert Holmes Bell emphasized the severity of child pornography offenses, noting the gravity of Schock’s actions and the message it sends to potential predators.

U.S. Attorney Patrick Miles expressed concern about the widespread nature of child exploitation, emphasizing the role law enforcement played in bringing justice swiftly. Marlon Miller of HSI Detroit highlighted the importance of protecting children from trusted adults who prey on them, underscoring that Schock’s sentence is a necessary deterrent.

The MSP Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and Homeland Security Investigations were commended for their collaborative efforts in this case, ensuring the safety of potential victims. Assistant U.S. Attorney Tessa K. Hessmiller prosecuted the case under Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative dedicated to protecting children from exploitation.

For those with information or concerns about child exploitation, local law enforcement is advised as part of the ongoing effort to locate and prosecute individuals who victimize children.
