GRIMY TIMES – The grimy streets of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, are once again the backdrop for a harrowing tale of exploitation. A Chinese national has been indicted for attempting to entice a minor into an illegal sexual relationship.
Shengjie Cheng, 32, has been charged with attempted enticement of a minor. According to the federal indictment, the Chinese national, operating under the alias “Marvellous Pirate” on social media, sought to convince what he believed to be a 15-year-old girl in Baton Rouge to engage in criminal activities.
Cheng’s actions are part of the ever-growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The United States Attorney’s Office has announced that if convicted, Cheng faces a minimum sentence of ten years and up to life imprisonment. A $250,000 fine, lifelong supervised release, and sex offender registration requirements also await him.
The investigation into Cheng’s despicable actions is a collaborative effort by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations, the ICAC Task Force, and the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Assistant United States Attorney Edward H. Warner and Special Assistant United States Attorney Allen Ross are leading the prosecution in this case, which is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
As Cheng awaits his fate, the community stands united in denouncing such despicable acts. The Department of Justice’s Operation Take Back America continues its fight against illegal immigration and transnational criminal organizations, ensuring that Baton Rouge remains safe from the predators who seek to exploit innocent children.
