Chippewa Falls Man Gets 10-Year Sentence for Meth Trafficking

Madison, Wis. – In a resounding blow against drug trafficking in the Western District of Wisconsin, Jason Barnard, 39, from Chippewa Falls, has been sentenced to ten years in prison for methamphetamine trafficking. The sentence was handed down by Chief U.S. District Judge James D. Peterson following Barnard’s guilty plea on May 9, 2025.

Barnard’s downfall began when he sold meth and fentanyl to an informant twice within a month in October 2024. On his return trip from Minnesota, law enforcement pulled him over, uncovering over two kilograms of meth, 85 grams of fentanyl, and $3,696 cash.

At the sentencing hearing, Judge Peterson deemed Barnard’s actions as trafficking “vast” quantities of drugs, a crime with severe consequences for the community. ‘It’s a very serious offense,’ Peterson stated, underscoring the gravity of the situation.

The case against Barnard was the fruit of a joint investigation by the West Central Drug Enforcement Task Force, the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation, and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Remington led the prosecution.

For Barnard, this sentence marks the culmination of his illegal activities, while for law enforcement and the community, it serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against drug trafficking.
