Chippewa Falls Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Methamphetamine Trafficking

Chippewa Falls, WIS. – In a stark blow to the local drug trade, Jason Barnard, 39, of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, was today sentenced by Chief U.S. District Judge James D. Peterson to 10 years in federal prison for his role as a methamphetamine trafficker.

Barnard’s criminal activities reached a new low when he was caught with over two kilograms of meth and 85 grams of fentanyl, along with $3,696 cash, during a traffic stop on his way back from Minnesota. The drugs were sold to an informant twice in October 2024.

‘Barnard’s trafficking of vast quantities of drugs is a very serious crime, with devastating consequences for our community,’ Judge Peterson stated at the sentencing hearing.

The investigation that led to Barnard’s arrest was a collaborative effort between the West Central Drug Enforcement Task Force, Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation, and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Remington prosecuted the case with relentless determination.

Barnard pleaded guilty on May 9, 2025, to possession of 500 grams or more of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, a charge that carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years under federal law.

As the gritty streets of Chippewa Falls grapple with the aftermath of Barnard’s drug dealing activities, the community remains vigilant and hopeful for continued efforts to combat drug trafficking in their midst.
