Choir Teacher Orlando Diaz-Ramirez Sentenced for Child Pornography Receipt

McALLEN, Texas – Orlando Diaz-Ramirez, a 33-year-old Mexican citizen and former choir teacher at a local middle school, has been sentenced to 97 months in federal prison for receiving child pornography. The U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani announced the sentence.

Diaz-Ramirez, who pleaded guilty on September 8, 2023, admitted to receiving 300 videos of child pornography from Israel Flores, 22, of Los Fresnos. According to court records, Diaz-Ramirez also possessed an additional eight GB of child porn on his Dropbox account.

Chief U.S. District Judge Randy Crane noted that by engaging in the receipt of this material, Diaz-Ramirez’ actions fed into the market for the production of child pornography and the possible victimization of future children. Flores was previously sentenced to 97 months in prison as well.

The investigation began in October 2020 when authorities identified an individual uploading child porn to a Dropbox account linked to Diaz-Ramirez’s residence. A federal search warrant executed at his home revealed he had downloaded the material through Kik, uploaded it to Dropbox, and possessed a USB drive containing child pornography from Flores.

Both men must pay $24,000 and $21,000, respectively, to known victims. They will also register as sex offenders and serve five years on supervised release. Diaz-Ramirez is expected to face removal proceedings following his sentence.

Homeland Security Investigations conducted the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexa D. Parcell prosecuting the case as part of Project Safe Childhood, a DOJ initiative aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse.
