Midland, Texas – In a shocking display of brazen disregard for the law, a convicted felon has been sentenced to 33 months in federal prison for pointing a rifle at and threatening a driver in Odessa, Texas.
Court documents reveal that on August 29, 2020, Christopher Caswell, 33, of Odessa, pointed a rifle at a victim while arguing with another individual in front of a residence on Eisenhower Road. The victim, understandably shaken, drove off and contacted police. Odessa Police officers responded to the scene and confronted Caswell, who dropped the Hi-Point 9 mm rifle and fled on foot.
The U.S. Marshals Service Lone Star Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Caswell on September 17, 2020 in Dallas. He has since remained in federal custody.
Caswell’s criminal history includes two prior state felony convictions in Odessa for evading arrest/detention. On November 4, 2020, he pleaded guilty to the felon-in-possession charge.
U.S. Attorney Ashley C. Hoff announced the sentencing, which was ordered by U.S. District Judge David Counts. In addition to the 33-month prison term, Caswell will be placed on supervised release for a period of three years after completing his prison term.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making our neighborhoods safer for everyone. The Odessa Police Department investigated this case, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Monica Daniels prosecuted it.
